Community Spotlight: Cold Garden

Welcome to the Community Spotlight blog series! We have customers in over 400 communities, for which we are incredibly grateful, so we know how special your neighborhoods are. We thought it might be a good idea to introduce you to the place we call home; the historic community of Inglewood in Calgary, Alberta. With the recent hardships small businesses have had to face, our goal is to highlight some other local businesses in Inglewood with whom we are proud to share the community.
Built upon the love of beer, and spurred on by a passing comment in a university classroom, Cold Garden has been a fixture of the Inglewood community since they opened their doors in 2017. Bringing a casual and eclectic vibe to the neighborhood, as well as a lineup of traditional and eccentric beers (“This Must Be the IPA” is a strong contender for the best IPA in the city), Cold Garden has established itself as one of the city’s top micro-breweries. Back in 2017, they jumped at the chance to put down roots in such a vibrant community with the goal of breathing new life into what was once the brewing district of Calgary. If you’ve ever walked by their buzzing patio on a warm afternoon, it’s safe to say that goal has been achieved.
The community embraced Cold Garden with open arms at the start when renovations were still underway on the taproom, and has stayed with them ever since. This includes during the recent pandemic, which presented a unique set of challenges. Closing, re-opening, closing again, re-opening with patios only - it was a lot for the young business to deal with. But the brewery walked the tightrope of ever-changing restrictions with graceful precision, pivoting a lot of their operation to online orders, adding merchandise (including facemasks), and other revenue streams like virtual tours and private tastings to their offering. They came together and maneuvered in solidarity with one another, helping them persevere. The Cold Garden team acknowledges just how grateful they are for the support of their customers, who stayed loyal throughout the process by ordering products for take out. As a thank you, they recently ran a promotion which gave away free cans of beer to people who brought in proof of their COVID-19 vaccination. Now, with restrictions lifted, they are ready to welcome everybody back with open arms!
Cold Garden has been working tirelessly on ensuring they remain a safe and comfortable place for all patrons. They’ve expanded their patio and spaced out their taproom to fit more people than ever before, and have new beers coming out every week or two. If you’ve never been, are just learning about Cold Garden for the first time, or have been thinking about visiting them, now is the perfect opportunity for you to head on over and try one of their tasty, locally-made brews.
Cold Garden is located at 1100 11 St SE. Their website is https://www.coldgarden.ca/ and you can find them on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter.
