The Power of Partnership

At the heart of every strong community is a commitment to care, and few organizations embody that commitment more than the Calgary Seniors’ Resource Society (Calgary Seniors). Through its dedicated volunteer and social work programs and emergency funding support, Calgary Seniors works tirelessly to help older adults remain safe, connected, and thriving in their homes. Its holistic approach—grounded in trust, collaboration, and dignity—ensures that vulnerable seniors receive timely support when they need it most.
Thanks in part to donations from Spot Cares and Spot Power, Calgary Seniors has provided critical interventions to seniors in Calgary when needed most. Over the past four years, Spot Cares has contributed over $85,000 to the Calgary Seniors Emergency Fund, directly supporting seniors facing urgent, complex crises—many of whom fall through the cracks of traditional systems.
“Your funding has had a transformative impact on the lives of older adults facing emergency situations and food insecurity. Thank you for standing with us to support older adults in our community.”
The impact of these contributions is both measurable and deeply human. From keeping the heat on during winter to covering a damage deposit for someone facing eviction or providing an emergency food hamper, each dollar makes a tangible difference. These funds go beyond temporary fixes; they empower older adults to reclaim stability and independence and help restore dignity and hope at some of life’s most vulnerable moments.
When Martha* called Calgary Seniors, she was in a crisis. Facing urgent food insecurity, rental arrears, missing seniors' benefits, limited mobility, and a shortage of incontinence supplies, she had nowhere else to turn—and no support network to rely on.
Calgary Seniors stepped in immediately. Using emergency funds, they provided Martha with emergency food, incontinence and laundry supplies, and an automatic can opener to accommodate her mobility limitations. They also helped cover her rental arrears, easing the threat of eviction. With her basic needs stabilized, Martha was connected to long-term social work support and helped apply for a space in a subsidized seniors' lodge, providing her with a safe and stable living environment for the future.
Without this rapid response and access to emergency funding, Martha would have faced imminent homelessness and hospitalization. Thanks to the compassion and swift action of Calgary Seniors and the funds donated through Spot Cares, Martha now has hope, stability, and a clear path forward.
This shared mission of dignity and support is personal for Spot Power’s founders, Nick Clark and Madeline Low—who themselves are proudly aging into the senior category.
“Age is just a number,” Nick says. “But respect, care, and affordability—that’s where we can make a real difference. Offering senior rates is just one way Spot Power gives back to those who helped build this province. Through both our customer programs and our community investments in agencies like Calgary Seniors, we aim to make aging in Alberta just a little easier.”
At Spot Power, we’re proud to stand alongside organizations like Calgary Seniors in creating a stronger, more caring community for older adults. If you’re already a Spot Power customer, thank you for your continued loyalty. If not, we invite you to sign up today or help a senior in your life take advantage of our special seniors’ rate.
